“This is NOT an SAP training course. But it WILL help you decide if an SAP professional career is something for you. And if it is, how to stack the cards in your favor.”
This week we needed to practice SAP in a live SAP environment before starting a new project in Ireland.
We found Michael Management offering online SAP access. For an SAP consultant it’s great because normally you only have access to SAP during an SAP project at a client’s site. But now you can prepare yourself for your next SAP project 24/7 from your comfy home PC for a mere $99/month. Something that was impossible a few years ago.
We’ve discovered that Michael Management offers a lot to get SAP beginners up to speed too. They have a $99 Online “Introduction to SAP” self study course for beginners and it’s even possible to practice 30 days in a live SAP system for $80 more. Additionally there are online training courses for several SAP modules such as FI/CO.
The basic approach Michael Management suggests to get you up to speed with SAP is:
Take their online SAP training courses which best fit to your own background
Practice what you’ve learned through the online SAP access they offer
Learn more from their SAP how-to articles, documentation and exchanging know-how in the forum
What we like about the courses is that they’re interactive, simulated SAP sessions as if you were logged into a real SAP system. Compared to many other ‘SAP courses’ which are Word documents or Powerpoint presentations that’s refreshing and certainly makes it faster to learn SAP modules in a structured way. And complementing their online training courses with online SAP access is a powerful way to get to know SAP modules.
Obviously knowing SAP modules isn’t a guarantee for landing an SAP job. Susan Geldof’s new ebook ‘So You Want To Be an SAP Professional‘ shows there is much more to it. But it’s a fact that the SAP market demands SAP skills at the very minimum, and Michael Management is doing an excellent job to help people meet this requirement.
Wellesley Information Services, probably better known from SAP Press and the (free) SAP Insider magazine, now has a set of multimedia courses about key SAP technologies and best practices. There are over 30 courses. Each course contains CD’s with videos of presentations by experts, course books, reference articles and more. More info at http://www.sapinsidermultimedia.com . And you can also watch an online demo of a video after registering.

Today we received the new video from Nina Butzke, the enthousiastic person in charge of PR and Marketing at the German Datango AG.
The video shows Datango’s Performance Suite, very easy to use software with which you can create interactive simulations, documentation and support material to support users learning their SAP environment.
There are other software solutions we’ve used to create online SAP help and other training material for SAP end users such as RWD’s uPerform (also known als SPP - SAP Productivity Pak), Global Knowledge’s OnDemand and Assima, but Datango’s product is something to keep a close eye on.
We saw a demo during one of the SAP User Group meetings. What struck us the most is Datango’s way of storing recorded data in a database. After recording simulations, data can be manipulated to create plant/country specific data variants. These data variants are used as input for automatically generated new simulations in SAP, only this time the result is customized for those other plants/countries. This enables getting out online help/training material in other languages with very little effort compared to the traditional alternatives. As you probably know localized help/training material is quite often required when a company starts rolling out SAP to their foreign branches. Translating would be a tough job for translation companies because of the SAP terminology.
With their powerful suite, Datango currently is breaking into the US and wider international market at record speed, helping companies to quickly and smoothly launch and operate new enterprise applications worldwide. The past fiscal year they had a growth rate of more than 100%

SAP’s IDES (Internet Demo and Evaluation System) is a software system that contains several sample companies typifying relevant business processes. It is used for demos, online/classroom training, and presentations. It is meant for potential customers to trial and test software via the Internet and can be downloaded from the SAP Service Marketplace, but you need the corresponding SAP license ( i.e. you need to be a Customer or a Partner). Writers Nancy Muir (professional author) and Ian Kimbell (Vice President mySAP ERP Strategy at SAP AG) have done a terrific job explaining SAP. The meat is in 350 pages in clear language without fluff and easy to read.
It’s not getting you bogged down into technical details. Instead it gives you an impression of how to place SAP AG’s products in the business environment, what SAP’s product strategy is, which products there are and for which type of business. Continue reading »
