New Starter Training For SAP® Software

Posted: September 1st, 2010, by admin

It’s not the first time someone with little hands-on experience gets planted before an SAP software screen, and is expected to ‘figure it out’.

www.erp-training.com announced a new starter training for users of SAP software, enabling them to improve their hands-on experience. The training is developed by a professional and experienced SAP trainer and application consultant, certified by SAP AG.

The training package (CD with interactive videos and workbook) is aimed at

  • Working easier and more efficiently with SAP software screens and transactions
  • Getting first exposure to SAP software the easy way
  • Increasing hands-on experience

The course will be ‘very affordable’, a solution for people who’s boss isn’t paying for their training.

For practicing, online access to a live SAP system is not necessary. This is interesting for

  1. Employees that are going to work with SAP software screens and transactions – there’s no risk of messing up a live production environment
  2. Companies needing a low-cost way to train their employees and have no access to the external websites of online SAP training providers. External websites are sometimes blocked for security reasons
  3. Individuals that don’t have access to the fast internet connection required for online training,  e.g. when they have time to study in the train or bus

SAP training providers looking for off-the shelf training material for their customer training will benefit as well.

Online access to SAP® for individual training*

Posted: December 28th, 2009, by admin

Last year this blog mentioned SID as a source for access to SAP systems for practicing online with SAP systems yourself.

In the meantime several other providers are offering access too. Recently, US based Rentourserver offers access to SAP systems for individuals as well as companies, starting from $99/month (cancellable anytime). With the low US $ value this is cheaper than SID.

Rentourserver offers access to their servers, installed with software such as:

  • SAP® ECC6.0 with IDES (MM, WM, FICO, SD, PP, HR, IM and more)
  • SAP® R/3® Enterprise with IDES
  • SAP® BI 7.0
  • SAP® WebDynPro
  • SAP® PI
  • SAP® SCM
  • SAP® SRM
  • and more.

SAP access

PS. There are providers which offer SAP access for even lower monthly rates. Please keep in mind that use of SAP systems is subject to SAP AG’s license agreements. Check that they have permission from SAP AG to provide access to a server with an SAP system – otherwise you’re using an SAP system illegally, with potentially serious consequences. SID publishes a letter from SAP (UK) Limited on their website to prove that their service is legal. According to their website Rentourserver is legal and licensed to provide monthly SAP Server Access – haven’t verified this.

Online SAP® Training Courses delivered by MMC*

Posted: December 28th, 2009, by admin

Michael Management Corporation (MMC) has really been working on their courses for online SAP training. In 2009 many new online training courses were released for people already having basic SAP skills, starting from $79.

Overview Courses are introductory courses to SAP modules, meant for managers, end users, business analysts and consultants. End User Courses go into more details and simulate SAP transactions. Configuration Courses are designed for business analysts/configurators and consultants who need to configure SAP modules.

The way these courses are presented varies. There are Demonstration Courses, like movies where an instructor shows demonstrations. Simulation Courses are pre-defined course where a student needs to interact, e.g. click the right button to go further.

For the record, Simulation Courses are not courses with access to real live SAP “sandbox” systems. Access to real live SAP systems in a controlled environment would be excellent for practicing or refreshing hands-on experience, but for a starter without fundamental SAP training it would be like trying to drive a car without someone telling first where the controls are and what they’re for.

SAP Training underestimated

Posted: May 21st, 2008, by admin

Demir Barlas in the  ”The SAP Training Lie“ expresses his concerns about the positioning of third party companies as “authorized” SAP training partner, particularly in India.

There are at least 15 companies in India alone on SAP’s own  list of SAP Education Partners, but apparently that is not what Mr. Barlas means. Continue reading »

Online access to SAP for learning purposes

Posted: May 8th, 2008, by admin

SAP’s IDES (Internet Demo and Evaluation System) is a software system that contains several sample companies typifying relevant business processes.  It is used for demos, online/classroom training, and presentations. It is meant for potential customers to trial and test software via the Internet and can be downloaded from the SAP Service Marketplace, but you need the corresponding SAP license ( i.e. you need to be a Customer or a Partner).
